The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
